This single-story historic storefront on a quiet Boerum Hill block has lived many lives - first as a tailor’s shop, then as an artist’s studio - before being transformed into a private residence. Our design reimagined the compact footprint as an elegant home, layering a rich material palette with custom millwork to maximize both functionality and character.
Working within the constraints of the existing site, we introduced inventive spatial planning and crafted details that bring a a balance of warmth, color, and light that animates the small interior. Outside, the landmarked façade was carefully restored, preserving the building’s presence on the street while signaling its new life within.
The result is a distinctive Brooklyn home that honors its history while offering modern comfort and intimacy - a quiet retreat, designed with care, in the heart of the city.
